Mousumi’s Practice:
Mousumi is building a very busy practice in immigration and family law and welcomes all instructions within her expertise. She has recently completed her Public Access training and is happy to take on cases from lay clients in suitable matters.
Immigration:
Mousumi is regularly instructed by the Secretary of State for the Home Department and for appellant work and is recognised as a determined and client focused advocate who specialises in advice, representation and advocacy in all areas of immigration, asylum, nationality, bail, human trafficking, deportation and detention. Mousumi specialises in representing vulnerable clients in asylum appeals, including unaccompanied minors and those fleeing from gender-based persecution. She has acted for clients from a number of countries, including Nigeria, Iraq and Cameroon.
Mousumi previously headed the immigration department of a busy law firm where she gained experience in human rights claims based on family and private life, settlement, cases involving EEA free movement. She assisted with the preparation of appeals before the First-tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal and Court of Appeal, as well as judicial review applications.
Family:
Mousumi accepts instructions in all areas of family law, including: financial remedy proceedings, law relating to children and domestic violence. Mousumi regularly works on family cases with multiple complex issues; for example, in cases where parents who do not have an immigration status in the UK are seeking leave so they can maintain their relationship with their children. Her previous experience of working with the National Centre of Domestic Violence has meant that she is able to work confidently under time constraints and fearlessly promote the client’s interests. A recent successful case is where she secured contact for a father who had limited status in the UK and had been seeking contact with his child for over three years.
Civil Litigation:
Mousumi appears in landlord and tenant disputes, possession matters and money claims and enforcement matters. She has a particular interest in working on cases involving civil penalties for employing illegal workers. In 2015, Mousumi completed her training as an international civil and commercial mediator.P
